The Overseas School of Colombo is hosting “Open Day and Scholarship programme” on 12th January, 9.30am at the school premises. The oldest and first international school in Sri Lanka, with an impressive mix of 45 nationalities of students and faculty, welcome all discerning parents to participate in this event.

Established in 1957 as a non-profit organisation, OSC is a multi-national English medium school catering to Sri Lankan students and the internationally mobile expatriate community. OSC is proud to be the only fully authorized IB World School in Sri Lanka offering the International Baccalaureate Programme from Pre-school to Grade 12. The IB program is globally recognized as the Gold Standard in education, preparing students for the rigorous demands of University & contributing to high levels of performance throughout.
OSC is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools – UK, and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in the United States. OSC is a member of South Asia Inter-School Association (SAISA) and Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools (NESA).

At OSC, the IB program is offered for Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) & Diploma programme (IBDP) which emphasizes and guides the students in developing their levels of inquiry and understanding, holistic learning, intercultural awareness and communication, higher order thinking and learning and research skills.

Studies conducted by the IB Global Research Department have found that, as a whole, PYP & MYP students outperformed their peers on the International Schools Assessment (ISA) in reading, math and writing, and higher percentage of students in MYP schools achieved advanced performance levels on mathematics and sciences than counterparts in comparison schools. – www.ibo.org/research

The IB Diploma (IBDP) is a comprehensive, rigorous, broad –based programme of study which encompasses six academic subjects, Community Service, original research which culminates in an Extended Essay, and a challenging philosophy course called Theory of Knowledge. This programme is seen by many universities across the globeas the best preparation for higher study and especially recognized by US and UK universities as developing individuals strong in the areas of problem solving, critical thinking, analysis, communication and motivation.

For two years in succession OSC Diploma students have achieved a 100% pass rate with an average score of 35, well above the IB world average score of 30. Some of the Universities attended by OSC graduates are; Cambridge University, Edinburgh University, Kings College (Oxford), London School of Economics, Berkeley College- USA, Boston University, George Washington University, Stanford University, Monash University, University of Sydney, to name a few.

Research conducted on International Baccalaureate Students studying at UK Higher Education Institutes (HEI) , found that up to 40% of IB students were enrolled in the Top 20 HEI’s, which is more than double the amount of A level entrants. IB students were also more likely to achieve first & second class honoursand more likely to be employed in graduate levels jobs and employed in higher paid occupations.

Scholarship programme for 2013/2014

The scholarship programme is an excellent opportunity for outstanding, motivated students to transfer to the IB Diploma programme which will pave the way for wider, recognized University access. Students who have completed the G.C.E. Local O/Levels and London O/Levels in 2012 are invited to attend the Open Day and discuss the merits and eligibility criteria of the Scholarship.
Candidates will be selected on the basis of an entrance examination, an assessment of past results, and a formal interview. Partial and full scholarships are available based on eligibility.

The scholarship is available for Sri Lankan nationals only.
