A commercial equipment company will be introducing ultraviolet radiation to treat skin diseases and some other ailments like osteoporosis and asthma in a first time initiative in Sri Lanka, company officials said.

Union Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd / Union Commercial Equipment (Pvt) Ltd is now importing “PANOS ultraviolet -B light lamp” from South Korea, T.H. Latiff, Deputy General Manager of the company told the Business Times. The device has been approved by the CDDA (Cosmetics Drugs and Devices Authority). The National Hospital of Colombo currently uses “PANOS”, an ultraviolet radiator gifted by the company, he added. PANOS is a Class II skin disease treatment device, designed to scientifically generate UV-B rays at wave lengths between 280nm~320nm, which have been known as life rays, or health rays.

It is made with “ultraviolet light lamp”, which is the patented technology for distinctive ultraviolet light exposure machine.
Mr Latiff said that statistics and reports revealed that scores of people have been healed in Korea and several countries around the world through this process. The medical device is specially recommended for bed sores with progressive results within a very short span of time (3 days – 4 weeks), he added.

“If you have a skin disorder that hasn’t responded to medication, talk with your doctor about ultraviolet light therapy. You will need to weigh the risks against the benefits before deciding if phototherapy with ultraviolet light is appropriate to treat your skin disorder,” he said.
