The Motor Traffic Department’s driver improvement scheme deserves commendation from road users and the general public. However, the scheme should not contain criteria that cannot be assessed objectively, such as reckless driving, ensuring a clear view when overtaking a vehicle, and so on. These can be challenged by the offending party.
Zebra crossing requirements also need clarification. We see pedestrians crossing the road even when the signal is red. The Police should launch a public education programme on electronic media before the regulations come into effect.
