‘Country Roads’ marks a historic occasion in February 2013 – the 25th anniversary of this iconic Sri Lankan music-for-needy-children concert series.

Absent for two years, with the last show held in 2010 at the Dutch Burgher Union (DBU) hall in Colombo, the Country Music Foundation (CMF) revives this popular series – this time with the return of Texas cowboy Bob Livingston.
Joining him are favourites, Dirk and the Mavericks from Germany, Astrid Brooke from Britain and famous local artistes for the February 17 concert at the Colombo Hilton, the host hotel.

The CMF is also going overseas for the first time, holding a concert for children in Male, the Maldivian capital, with the support of the Tourism Ministry there. “All funds raised for the show will be for needy children in the Maldives, similar to the Sri Lankan concept,” said a CMF spokesperson.

UNICEF, which the CMF worked with for many years at the initial stages of a concert series that began in 1988, returns as a partner for the Colombo and Male concerts. “We are happy to be associated,” noted UNICEF officials in separate comments in Colombo and Male. The Maldives’ concert would be held a few days after the Colombo event.

The CMF is hoping to raise a million rupees for charity from the Colombo concert, the 19th Country Roads show, and is looking for sponsors to raise this money which will go to a UNICEF project. The foundation is discussing with SriLankan Airlines complimentary airfares for foreign musicians – both to Colombo and Male – while the Colombo Hilton is helping out with accommodation needs. Watch this space for more on the show later.
