Arethusa win on penalties

Arethusa College, Wellawatte defeated the visiting under 17 soccer team of Anglos United Sports Federation from Bangalore, India by six goals to five in a penalty shoot out a the City League Football Complex recently. At half time Arethusa were leading 2-0 and  at the long whistle the scores were level at two all.

The opening goal of the game was a field goal off the boot of right extreme Lakshitha Seneviratne of the local team and in the 25th minute, mid field Ishan Perera made it 2-0. After the change of ends, the visitors pulled the lead back when mid field Klement Ignatius booted the first goal for Anglos in the 55th minute and 10 minutes later, he shot the equalizer.

In the penalty shoot out, Udara Kanishka, Isuru Prabath, Isuru Sampath, Dineth Nadeeshan, D. Siriman and Ishan Eranda scored a goal each for Arethusa. For the visitors, Mark Bower, Clayton Johnson, Jason Taylor, Lenis Louis and Andra Yates were the scorers.

The two most outstanding players for the side were Jason Taylor the striker who set up many scoring opportunities which however were not turned into goals and the baby of the team Sheraton Barreto who took up his position at left extreme and possessed bags of stamina.
This goodwill tour by the Anglos United Sports Club to Sri Lanka to promote the game among the youth was at the invitation of Saif Yusoof, the vibrant president of the Colombo Football Club. (BM)
