Sampath Bank beat HSBC to win ‘B’ final

Samapath Bank inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank to clinch the final MFA ‘B’ segment football championship concluded at the City League Football complex recently. At half time neither side had opened their account.

After the change of ends, in the 36th minute of the game Janitha Perera found a gap in the HSBC defense and pint size midfield Janaka Gamage who stands nothing more than five feet, four inches in his soccer boots, beat the HSBC custodian all ends up to give Sampath Bank the opening goal.

In the 59th minute, Dinusha Nanayakkara set up the second goal for centre forward Avinda Adikari to put the finishing touches and give Sampath Bank a well deserved 2-0 win.

The winning team was ably led by goal keeper Suraj Hettiarachchi who did an excellent job between the posts to thwart many attacks on the Sampath goal by the HSBC forwards.

Sampath Bank soccerites who defeated HSBC 2-0 to win the MFA ‘B’ Division ko final played recently at the City League Soccer grounds. The game was controlled by R. Prashanth, while K.A.G. Gunasena was the co-ordinator and Anton Atapattu was match commissioner. (BM)
