Sam the Man: Bang with ‘Sing -Along’

Nihal Samarasinghe, popularly known as Sam The Man is an icon of the local music scene. With more than four decades of performing experience as a professional musician, Sam travelled all over the globe with his Sax.

Since lately ‘Sam The Man’ considered by many as the ‘King’ of the Sing Along will go into action on Saturday 30 April when he takes full control of the U.K. Society Sing Along at the BMICH. He is also billed to conduct the Y.W.C.A. ‘Sing Along’ on 20 August, when the Y.W.C.A. celebrates its 60th Anniversary this year.

During one of his performances in London, UK, Sam had the opportunity of attending a
Sing Along conducted by Max Bygrves at the Royal Albert Hall in London and thereafter John McSweeney in Melbourne – Australia. Having mastered the art of the Sing- Along, Sam introduced the first Sing Along Concert in Sri Lanka in the year 1997 together with the Y’s men of Sri Lanka.

‘Y’s Men Sing –Along’, held at the Galle Face Hotel, was a resounding success. Since then Sam has conducted over a 100 major Sing Along concerts. The secret of his success is that he has a team of very experienced senior musicians who too have mastered the correct art of producing a proper Sing Along – an essential ingredient being the band should play it soft so the audience can be heard.

Sam’s team comprises Herman (Roili) Andrews on drums and vocals, Thushara Silva on keyboards and vocals, Dharshana Mawalage on Bass and vocals and Ryle Hanwellege on lead and vocals.
‘They combine extremely well and I am really happy with the team. We can produce a Sing- Along of international standard’ said Sam.

‘Sam The Man’ performs at the Kosgoda Beach Hotel very Wednesday and Fridays at the Serendib Hotel in Bentota. Saturdays the boys will be at the Blue Water in Wadduwa, Sundays at the Harbour Room of the Grand Oriental Hotel in Colombo and every first Monday at the Terrace of the Mount Lavinia Hotel.
