Nuwan and Anuja shines in drawn game
Under 19 Cricket

Nuwan Dharshana continued his batting form when he cracked an unbeaten 116 inclusive of four boundaries and two sixes following his knock of 90 last week in the drawn Under 19 inter-school cricket match between S. Thomas’ and Dharmapala concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.

Nuwan was supported by Anuja Fernando who made an unbeaten knock of 69. The pair associated in an unbroken stand of 169 for the fourth wicket helping the home side resume from their overnight score of 121 for 3 to declare their innings on a strong 275 for 3.

Earlier on day one Thomian left arm leg-spinner Neomal Wickremasekera struck again following his five wicket haul against Mahinda with another four wicket haul.

Neomal’s figures of 4 for 31 helped the Thomians despite a half ton from Rasitha Gamage to bowl out Dharmapala for a low score of 146. The Palians batting the second time ended the day on 179 for 7.

The Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter between Ananda and Mahinda concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday ended in a tame draw. The highlight of the match was the eight wicket haul by Mahinda’s right arm pacie Tharaka Gamage in the Ananda second inning.

Exchanges even at Katunayake
Exchanges were even in the drawn Under 19 encounter between Mahanama and Thurstan concluded at the FTZ ground in Katunayake yesterday.

Thurstan after bowling out Mahanama for 161 made 202 losing their last five wickets for only 25 runs in the morning session. Mahanama batting the second time fared better to make 272 with Hashan Perera making another knock of 51 following his 62 in the first inning.

Vidyartha impress against Trinity
Faced with a massive score of 369, Vidyartha made an impressive showing by getting as far as 274 in their drawn inter-school match against Trinity at Asgiriya.

Kasun Wijekoon (142 with 18 fours) took the batting honours with a splendid knock. His liaison with opener Tiranthan Dissanaike brought fourth 184 runs for the third wicket. Of spinner Wickrema apart, the rest of the bowling looked thin.

On the first day, Trinity opener Niroshan Dikwella came up with a massive unbeaten 158. He enjoyed a partnership of 176 for the seventh wicket with Kavinda Jyasuriya who missed out on ‘three-figure glory’.

Last ball win for St. Thomas’ Matale

Having conceded a 77 run lead on the first innings, St. Thomas’ Matale came back strongly to beat Sri Rahula Katugastota by 63 runs in the last ball of the match which was played on their home grounds at Matale.

The two captains Ravindra Kellepotha and Amith Tillekeratne, both spinners, bowled well to finish with match bags of 10 for 114 and 9 for 91 respectively.

Aided by a little bit of luck, Lahine Madusanka scored a brisk 93 (4X10, 6X3) to put his team on the victory path.

For Sri Rahula, Nimesha Wanasundera made an elegant 56 while off spinner Sunimal Dissanaike claimed another five wicket haul.
