Bandara and Samanthi win at Galle
Mini Marathon

Army’s Ajith Bandara and K.G. Samanthi of Police emerged winners at the final leg of the Nestomalt Mini Marathon held at Galle yesterday. Bandara completed the 16kms race with a timing of 48.33:3 while Samanthi finished the 10kms event with a timing of 1.02:43.

This was Bandara’s second successive win of the four-leg event having won the third leg last week which was held at Kurunegala. In fact Army runners swept the boards in the men’s open event by taking the first three positions.

Meanwhile Sulaj Kumara of Madakumubura MV and Nadeesha Nilimini of Mapalagama MV came out winners in the boys and girls event which was held concurrently.

The two events run over 10kms saw Sulaj hitting the tape with a timing of 35.41:4 and Nadeesha making it in a timing of 44.33:5. The final leg of the Nestomalt Marathon conducted by the AAA and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd saw over 750 runners taking part.

The top three winners of both the categories were presented medals, certificates and cash awards. The next seven runners in the two categories too were awarded certificates along with gift packs by the sponsors.
