Two Stamford Lake publications, 'Scattered Earth' by P.G. Punchihewa and ''Budusamaya Ha Papa Sankalpaya' by Ven. Gamunupura Somavansa Thera were awarded the State Literary Award for this year at a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat on Monday.

'Budusamaya Ha Papa Sankalpaya' was also chosen as one of the 'Best 5 books published for the year' by the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC).

At the Book Fair Collection of short stories

"Silver Lining" a collection of short stories by Srimathie R. Weerasuriya, and published by the International Book House Pvt Ltd will be available in IBH bookshops and also will at their bookstalls G290, 291 and D220, at the Book fair at the BMICH.

The book is the author's maiden attempt to write on the trials and the tribulations of the people of Sri Lanka.

A translation of 'La fille du Puisatier'

Dr. Piyasiri Vijayasekere’s translation of Marcel Pagnol's 'La fille du Puisatier' (The well-digger's daughter) will be launched at the Alliance Francaise de Colombo auditorium on Thursday, September 24 at 6 p.m.

Book on latest trends in Korean cinema

Sanjeewa Pushpakumara's new book ‘Koriyanu cinemawa saha Kim Ki Duk ge Cinema Rupa’ on recent trends in Korean Cinema and the internationally acclaimed film maker Kim-Ki Duk will be launched on September 25 at 3 p.m. at the auditorium of the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo 07.

Renowned film maker Dharmasiri Bandaranayake will chair the ceremony.

There will be three short lectures in Sinhala, Chinthana Dharamadasa on "The Challenges faced by a New Film Maker Today; Kaushalya Fernando on "To be an actress on this soil?" and Harindra B. Dassanayake on "An account on the space of film criticism in the West".

After these short addresses, the film Samaritan Girl by Kim-Ki Duk who was selected the Best Director at the 2004 Berlin film festival, will be screened.
