Rukshan Karunanayake, a young musician hails from Gampaha. A seventeen year old student of Gampaha Bandaranayake College, Rukshan formed his band ‘Chimes of 70s’ early this year for for the love of seventies songs.

‘Since my childhood I like the compositions of Clarence Wijewardene. By seeing the lead guitar techniques of Dixon Gunarathne of Super Golden Chimes Re-union Concert which was held in 2003, I was determined to learn the guitar.

The aim of the band is to preserve the 70’s musical style and to create more original song of that calibre.

‘We are much focused and playing the musical style of the 70’s. The main objective of our band is to preserve the 70’s musical style introduced by great musician, Clarence Wijewardene. Also we are in the processes of raising funds for disabled and low income communities, war heroes, hospital welfares, school welfares by holding musical concerts, and to cooperate with the concerts organized by schools and institutes’ Rukshan explained his goal in life.
