Nirasha and Saurullah best at court

Nirasha Guruge and Saurullah Khan from the Pakistan Air Force reigned supreme at the Air Force open Squash tournament concluded at the SLAF base Katunayake Indoor sports complex.

In the Women’s open the two Guruge sisters met in the final. Nirasha Guruge beat Tehani Guruge in a keenly contested four setter with both players showing great verve but Nirasha proving herself better on the day, winning the game with scores of 7/11, 11/3, 9/11, 5/11

In the final of the Men’s open Saurullah Khan from The Pakistan Air Force beat Sundep Jugra of the Indian Air Force, with the Pakistani airman showing great skill by using the walls with greater effect to get the better of his Indian counterpart. The scores stood at 11/5, 9/11, 7/4 at the end of the game.
The Men’s Novices Final started off with a very tight first set but Liuana Gunawardene got back on track in the third set to register a fine win against Malith. With the scoreline at 12/10, 6/11, 11/5, 11/6
R.S Laksiri made a clean sweep in the Boys Under 15 Final when he beat U. Hewage easily, not dropping a single set and proving himself far superior to his opponent on the day. The score stood at 11/5, 11/9, 11/7.

In the Boys Under 11 Final M.W.M. Shamil beat K. Viduranda Udantha.

Air vice Marshal P. B Premachandra the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air Force was the guest of honour at this event. (US)
