The most important person in my life
By Shafeeqah Kamileen (Grade 6), Methodist College

The most important person in my life is my mother, Nazlifah Kamileen. She is 41 years old and is a housewife. She cooks tasty food for us and tells us to study well. She helps me to study hard subjects.

She makes me happy and cheers me up when I am sad. My mother scolds me if I have done
something wrong. But I don't cry because she is scolding me for my own sake. That's because when I am big I won't do the wrong thing again.

She picks me up from school. She buys me interesting books and storybooks. She buys me colourful clothes and lets me wear them. I choose her as my most important person because she looks after me very lovingly.

She feeds me and gives me medicine when I am sick. She cares about me a lot. She buys me good things and she has put me into a good school for me to study. She keeps me and my brother safe. I'm proud to say that she is my mother and I love her a lot.

My pet

By Ahmed Ahzin (9 years), Dehiwala

My pet is a parrot. Its name is Jooth. It is green in colour. It has a red beak and a lovely chain around its neck. It is a male parrot.

He was presented to me by my father for my seventh birthday. I was very happy when he gave it to me as I always wanted a parrot as a pet. He likes to eat paddy and green gram. But its favourite food is mango.

My mother trains him to talk. I play with him every evening. He is very active. When he is hungry it calls my name and I give him food. I love my pet. I wish he will be my pet forever.

Water comes from rain, waterfall and ponds. We cannot live without water. Water is very important for us. Water is very useful to people, children, animals, plants and trees. We use water for so many things. We wash, cook and bathe with water.

We should boil water before we drink it. Water is colourless. We should not waste water and must use it carefully.
