CID seizes computer, documents belonging to Sicille Kotelawala

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has unearthed more details of allegedly underhand deals carried out by Golden Key Credit Card Company when they searched the room of Sicille Kotelawala, against whom an arrest warrant has been issued in connection with the 26 billion-rupee Golden Key scam, a senior CID official told the Sunday Times FT.

He said a team of CID sleuths found the personnel laptop of Ms. Kotelawala and some important documents during their search at her residence and the laptop was sent to the Colombo University School of Computing seeking their expertise to inspect the contnts and submit a report.

The CID is still awaiting the dossier from the International Police (INTERPOL) on Ms. Kotelawala who is believed to be under treatment in a hospital in Singapore, but the veracity of the medical certificate presented to the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate’s court, where the case is pending, has been repeatedly questioned by state prosecutors.

There were unconfirmed reports saying that Ms. Kotelawala is now in Australia but the CID official could not confirm this. Meanwhile the suspects in the Golden Key financial misappropriation case including Lalith Kotelawala, Khavan Perera, Sicille Kotelawala, Daniel Jegasothy, Padmini Karunanayake, Suramya Karunaratne, Bandula Ranaweera, Niranjan Fernando and Saradha Sumanasekera were further remanded till July 16 by Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Harsha Setunge when the case came up on Thursday.

In another development, Mr Jegasothy, Ms Karunanayake and Mr Ranaweera have filed bail applications before the Colombo High Court which will be be taken up for hearing tomorrow.
