Sunshine Games, the largest annual Sports Meet for differently-abled children, will be held at the Sports Ministry Grounds, Reid Avenue, Colombo 07 on Sunday, May 31. This is once again organized by the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan. Categories of disabilities of the children who are taking part are moderate mobility needs, one leg below knee amputees, one or both arms missing or impaired, totally visually impaired, partially visually impaired, hearing and/or speech impaired and special educational needs (Down’s Syndrome).

720 children from 24 schools all over the country are taking part this year. All participants, teachers and parents numbering around 1100 will be provided with free breakfast, a drink, lunch, ice cream, tea and short eats. The games will be held in a carnival atmosphere with many items of entertainment for the kids. Participants will also receive valuable gift packs.

The main sponsor of the project which will be costing around Rs. 1.2 Million, is Pan Asia Bank. Other principal sponsors will be Ceylon Knit Trend Ltd., Greenlanka Shipping, Jafferjee Brothers, The Hilton Colombo, Hilton Colombo Residence and Brandix Inspired Solutions and Norfolk Foods. This is the 18th consecutive year that this club has held a sports-meet of this nature.
