Sameera shines for St. Joseph’s
By Aubrey Kuruppu
A fantastic all round performance by Josephian skipper Sameera Weerasinghe (11 for 109 and 118 not out) made certain that his team dominated the third Murali-Vass Trophy encounter played at Katugastota.
Replying to the Anthonian total of 166, the Joes were badly placed at 107-6 overnight. But Weerasinghe, assisted by Kumara, made nonsense of the fond hopes of a lead entertained by the home team as they raised their total to 282.

Malindu Perera continued his consistency with an unbeaten 73, while his skipper Sahan Palihakkara bagged a five for.

Weerasinghe won the awards for the best bowler, batsman and Man of the Match.
St. Anthony's 166 (H. Wickremasekera 60, D. Kumarasinghe 18, K. Ekanayake 16, S. Weerasinghe 7-51) and 151-8 (H. Wickremasekera 19, D. Kumarasinghe 14, M. Perera 73 n.o. S, Palihakkara 12, Y. Woods 12, S Weerasinghe 4-58, C. Kumara 3-8)

St. Joseph's 282 (R. Vithanachchi 23, H. Silva 17, S. Weerasinghe 118 not out, C. Kumara 54, D. Dhambarage 26, S. Palihakkara 5-72, K. Ekanayake 3-89). - A.K.
