FITISS CEOs meet at Breakfast to discuss on "How to overcome the Current Financial Crisis"


The FITISS , established in 1996 has as its members the SLASI (Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industry), SLCVA (The Sri Lanka Computer Vendors Association) , ACTOS ( Association of Computer Training Organization Sri Lanka) and LISPA (License Internet Service Providers Association) It also works in close association with ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) and BCS (British Computer Society) - Sri Lanka Section under the Infotel umbrella .

The FITISS CEO's Breakfast Meeting held on Thursday last week at the Cedar Room of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel brought together a cross section of the ICT Heads from the community who discussed and deliberated on the theme ' The Global Financial Crisis - its impact on the ICT sector ".

The presentations made by Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe and Mr. Dinesh Weerakody were on the specific areas of what impact the Banking and Finance sector and the Human Resource Sector affected by this crisis, had on the ICT sector .

The panel discussion was led by Dr. Harsha de Silva Lead Economist LIRNEasia consisted of Mr. Dinesh Weerakody - MD of Cornucopia Sri Lanka , Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe , Chairman Bank of Ceylon, Securities and Exchange Commission and Informatics Group of Companies and Mr. Jay Keller CIO and Executive Director of MAS Holdings Pvt Ltd. and Director of AMCHAM .

A highly interactive discussion between the panel and the audience brought out salient points which need to be addressed in terms of kick starting the revival from the crisis . The discussion centered on - different and or combined strategies for export and domestic industry, the Supply and demand issue for human resources and policy issues on providing incentives, among others . FITISS plans to conduct more programmes of this nature to stimulate the industry heads to move in the right direction.
