How did Shakespeare get his muse to write Hamlet?

With the amount of hits he was churning out in his heyday, what would have happened if Shakespeare ever had to go through an extended period of writers block?

StageLight&Magic Inc, will be staging a hilarious musical comedy based on just such a hypothetical theme, at the Lionel Wendt, from February 20 - March 1, from 7.30pm – 9pm.

The musical, written by American scriptwriters Fazer Haesh and Mark Eaden and titled Hamlet at Elsie’s Bar is about how Shakespeare is suffering from a severe case of writer’s block with his most recent writing being complete failures. He whiles his nights away at Elsie’s bar, drinking with his good friends and contemporaries, Ben Johnson, Christopher Marlowe and John Donne, trying to find his muse.

Elsie’s bar is in its heyday, attracting a regular set of people from varied walks of life and is owned by Osric, who is assisted at the bar by his wife Ophelia and son Horatio. There are two waitresses, Rosie Crantz and Gilda Stern and Osric’s brother Claude is the bartender.

The carrying on of the proprietor family’s public personal lives, complete with two love triangles and a drunken duel gives Shakespeare the inspiration to start writing a play called, ‘Hamlet – Prince of Lichtenstein.’

Several strokes of genius and many drinks later, Shakespeare finally writes Hamlet – Prince of Denmark. The cast consists of 21 actors cum singers who will perform live for the show along with a live band.

Both director Feroze Kamardeen and Producer Sirraj Abdul Hameed are extremely happy with the new members whom they say are extremely talented and bring a new freshness to the production.

The musical comedy will go onstage for eight days. It will however not run on the 23 and 24 of February (Monday and Tuesday).

The audience is advised not to be late as the foundation of the plot would unfurl within the first few minutes and carry on to a crescendo from there.
