The winner takes it all..

R. Mathiasz of Colombo 9, writes.......

The 3 judges at the Derana Dream Star Contest – Keerthi Pasqual, Nirosha Virajani and Rohana Bogoda are exemplary. They are a competent lot and are not biased although they seem to be so. They have over and over again stated that some people may think they are biased or siding one or two singers but it was not so. They were only stating a mere fact to which I too agree and so will many others.

I was enjoying the singing of one of the singers the winner – Udesh Indula to be precise – who I feel can hold his own with any one of the present day singers and who was praised to the hilt by no less than Bathiya and Santhoosh the week prior to this incident. Bathiya said that the Indian singer who sang this particular song would have been amazed at his singing as even he could not have done better and he should try to capture with his singing not only Sri Lanka but the whole of Asia.

I do not know whether Udesh has studied music but it seems so when he is singing the ragas and ‘aalaps’.

A guest artiste has spoken bad about Udesh during the contest. My view is that this guest artiste should not have spoken in this manner but should have encouraged the youngster who is only 19 years with a kind word. In all other instances every guest artiste who had graced this programme had praised him and was amazed at his singing since he was a novice in the trade.

Good luck Udesh
