A beautiful walkway soon to blossom

If you have been in the vicinity of Independence Square recently, you might have noticed some fancy landscaping work in progress. Under construction is a walkway of about 500 metres, starting at Independence Hall and leading up to the Colombo Planetarium.

On either side of the walkway will be landscaped gardens complete with fountains, ponds, trees and flowering plants. The idea is to give the public yet another pleasant urban venue to gather, relax and stroll around while enjoying the surroundings.

The walkway project is expected to be completed by July 25, in time for the SAARC summit, The Sunday Times learns. The project is a part of a city beautification programme of the Urban Development Authority.
