'Down Memory Lane' 2008 the prime Sing- a-Long Music Concert of the Moratuwa Arts Forum(MAF) is due to come alive tonight (Sunday, July 6) at the usual location of Ranmal Holiday Resort Gorakana Moratuwa.

At the strike of 6.30 in the evening the band will play Old Folks at Home, and thereafter it would be a matter of singing along by the usually packed house of regulars who always patronize this show organized by the Moratuwa Arts Forum. They are proud to say that this is the 11th time they are organizing this show which is claimed by them as the first of its kind organized by any organization. Their first was held in 1997 and continued every year without a break till 2006 where they celebrated the 10th anniversary. Now they have decided in having it every other year since there are several who organize such shows. However they are confident that theirs is still the most popular especially amongst the music loving folks of Moratuwa. This sing-a-long festival that was held continuously for 10 long years gives a wonderful opportunity for senior citizens to enjoy a sing-a-long time of vintage songs as well as golden oldies. It also helped the Forum to raise funds for many projects which includes promoting and uplifting amateur talent and providing welfare funds for assisting members and their families in times of need.

Moratuwa Arts Forum is an Organization comprised of a large membership of professional artistes from many fields from Moratuwa. Its prime objective is to foster arts and to promote and uplift young talent to blossom in their respective fields. Since its inauguration in 1994, they have executed many meaningful youth programmes and projects and have won many accolades from the public. This year they look forward in making this show take a different turn by engaging a professional band, Super Pink N Purple, all of whom are also members of the Forum to provide the musical backing in contrast to their previous arrangement of forming a band for the occasion drawn from the membership who had been former players of various bands. Further they claim that their first programme of "Down Memory Lane" held in 1997 became an initial hit and this novel concept of a show with audience participation generated much interest, hence became an annual event ever since and has now been established as the prime community singing programme of its kind in the country. Every participant becomes the recipient of a free songbook complete with lyrics of 100 songs which is now being used regularly at most household parties.

"Down Memory Lane" project committee this year is co-chaired by Viranjan Perera of Super Pink N Purple and Jagath Devapriya Peiris of Pimal & Jagath duo. The co-secretaries are Erinton Perera & Priya Peiris and the rest of the committee is formed of 9 others namely, Lincoln de Silva, Delvin Pereira, Hiran Fernando, Brian Coorey, Merril Fernando, Surani Fernando and from the Exco Laksiri Fernando the President of Moratuwa Arts Forum, Anuradha Mendis the Secretary and Suranga Fernando the Treasurer.

The project committee invites all music lovers to join in this sing-a-long and also enjoy the opportunity of winning some valuable prizes from a raffle draw of the entrance ticket. Tickets are priced at Rs. 500/- where they have arranged for free seating, however prior reserved bookings are accepted for only table reservations of 10 persons sitting together.
