Travel clamp for people in north
Civilians in the north will be required to obtain Police passes to travel to Colombo or other areas in the south in terms of new measures introduced by the Government. This requirement will apply to those living in the districts of Vavuniya, Mannar, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu. Those wishing to travel will be required to make a written application to the Police giving reasons for the visit, places where they would stay, the duration and intended date of return.
 
Fuel cut for public servants, not for.....
Top public officials have been asked by the government to cut fuel consumption but ministers and MPs will face no such austerity measures. Most ministers use super luxury vehicles which are known to be gas guzzlers.
 
Ranil’s Earl hired by Tourism Ministry
John Earl, whose services were acquired by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe during the 1999 Presidential Election campaign, has now been hired as a consultant to the Ministry of Tourism to prepare a new tourism and communications strategy. This follows an invitation by Minister Milinda Moragoda.
