Nuwan Soysa of Isipatana and Riffka Kameel of Pushpadana BMW Kandy were picked as most outstanding schoolboy and schoolgirl sports stars of the year for cricket and table tennis respectively. The Milo schools awards ceremony will be held on December 2 at the BMICH at 3. pm
Ravi Vindyan of St. Anthony's Katugastota and Anuja Subashini Kumari of St Joseph's BMW Nugegoda were picked as the up and coming Schools Sports stars ( boys ands girls) for table tennis and basketball respectively by the Sri Lanka Schools Sports Council.
In all, 213 boys and girls, will receive their colours representing 18 disciplines out of 27 from Mangala Samaraweera,Minister of Posts, Telecommunication and Media who will be the chief guest and Mujeeb Rashid the Marketing Director, Nestle Lanka Limited who will be the guest of honour.
Meanwhile Harini Jayasekera of Visakha Vidyalaya will be the only person to receive two awards in swimming and diving.

One wonders on what criteria that the girl's Sports Star was picked?
Without batting an eyelid one could have chosen diver Jayasekera for this award since she won a silver and bronze at the Asia Pacific Swimming and Diving Championships in Chinese Taipei.
It is also regretted to note that Gayan Ranatunga, who won a silver at the Asia Pacific meet, was not awarded colours. He should have been awarded the Up and Coming Sports Star award at least since Nuwan Soysa richly deserved the Sports Star Award for representing Sri Lanka Cricket whilst still being a school boy.
