Vidullanka to jointly develop 12 standalone BESS projects
View(s):Vidullanka PLC has announced an agreement to acquire 49 per cent equity stake in Storex (Pvt) Ltd, securing the rights to jointly develop 12 standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Sri Lanka with WindForce PLC.
The partnership between Vidullanka and WindForce follows the two companies’ previous collaboration to develop a 10 MW BESS project in Vavunathivu. Collectively, Vidullanka and WindForce have undertaken to develop 130 MW of the 160 MW tender awarded by the Ceylon Electricity Board. The goal of these projects is to strengthen grid stability and facilitate greater renewable energy integration in Sri Lanka, Vidullanka said in a media release.
Along with this landmark achievement, Vidullanka has also expanded its portfolio of renewable energy solutions, including its venture into wind power. With consortium partner David Peiris Motor Companies, both have emerged as the lowest cost bidder for the 50 MW Mullikulum wind tender, of which they were awarded Lot 2.
In addition, Vidullanka acquired an equity stake in SAFE Power (Pvt) Ltd, the project company of the 10 MW Alankuda wind project, which is presently under construction. The company also recently acquired a 100 per cent equity stake in Bhoruka Power Lanka Ltd, adding its 12th mini hydro power plant to its portfolio and bringing its generation portfolio to a total of 26 plants.
Furthermore, after having commissioned four ground mounted solar facilities in the last fiscal year, the company is set to commission another solar plant, a 10 MW project in Hambantota, that serves as another joint venture with the David Peiris Group of Companies.
