Jetwing initiative aims to redefine Sri Lanka tourism standards
With the changing demands of international tourists as well as increasing competition among different destinations, this week saw the launch of a new training course programme by Jetwing Travels, focusing specifically on the tourism industry.

This “Certificate Course in Inbound Travel and Tourism,” which kicked off in Colombo on May 7, is a joint programmed organised by Jetwing Travels and the Colombo Academy of Hospitality Management (CAHM), which works under the banner of Australia’s William Angliss Institute.
The project comes about as a result of recognition within the industry that the long-term future of Sri Lanka’s potential as a destination for tourism goes beyond what the country offers naturally to depend more heavily upon the expertise of the professionals involved.
At the opening ceremony, Chairman of Jetwing Symphony PLC, Hiran Cooray, highlighted the necessity of human resource development in order to maintain competitiveness in the tourism industry.
“Tourism has always been one of the natural strengths of Sri Lanka,” Mr. Cooray said. “But advantage alone is never permanent. Industries remain competitive only when they continue to invest in knowledge, capability and standards. What we are building through this programme is not simply training, it is a stronger foundation for the industry itself.”
The four-week programme, which will run through early June, brings together selected Jetwing Travels associates and CAHM students in a collaborative learning environment that blends academic theory with practical industry exposure.
Participants will be trained in many disciplines including eco and wildlife tourism, adventure tourism, experiential tourism, MICE tourism, sustainability and digital marketing.
According to Shiromal Cooray, Jetwing Travels Chairperson and Managing Director, the training programme was developed as an investment into the future of Sri Lankan tourism industry.
