Vidyarathana and Prajapathi BV dominate T.B. Jayah Boxing

Vidyarathana University College (VUC), Horana clinched the overall T.B. Jayah Boys’ Championship, while Prajapathi Balika Vidyalaya, Horana emerged as Girls’ Overall Champions, winning the Anurudda Bandara Challenge Trophy at the 54th T.B. Jayah Junior Boxing Championships, organised by Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association, concluded at the Vidyarathana University College Boxing Arena in Horana.

D.T. Gunaweera of Thurstan College was named Best Boys’ Boxer for his excellent performance in the 52-54kg bantamweight division, where he outclassed D.S.S. de Silva of VUC with style and control. In the Girls’ category, the Best Boxer title went to D.K. Thabavita of Asoka College, Horana, who impressed with her powerful showing in the 44-46kg division, beating U.G.D.D. Perera of LMV.

In the Boys’ divisions, Vidyarathana University College secured several medals including golds from U.S.D. Rodrigo (66-70kg) and J.D.Y.Y. Jayakodi (80+kg), while also claiming silver medals and bronzes. Other notable boys’ gold medalists included W.A.L.R. Wickramasinghe (STCM) in the 44-46kg class, N.P.M. Manjula (PDC) in the 46-48kg, U.S.S. Thekshana (WENDR) in 48-50kg, and M.I.S.M. Asadullah (RCC) in the 50-52kg division. R.S.N.D. Rajapaksha (DEER), M.K. Kalhara (DOBA), and R.B.A.S. Bandara (BCC) were among others who reached the top of the podium.

In the Girls’ events for the Anurudda Bandara Challenge Trophy, Prajapathi Balika Vidyalaya won six gold medals and collecting silvers and bronzes. Their champions included K.S.C. Jayasiri (46-48kg), M.D.C.S. Mayadunne (52-54kg), P.G.J.N. Gaurangana (54-57kg), R.A.D.D.S. Rupasingha (70-75kg), B.G.O. Amandya (75-80kg), and S.S. Withanage (80+kg). More than 60 schools from across the island took part in this five-day junior meet.
