Navod, Sachitha, Minod steer Tamil Union
An elegant knock of 152 by opener Navod Paranavithana and half tons by Sachitha Jayatileke and Minod Bhanuka helped Tamil Union complete their first innings on 486 against Chilaw Marians on the second day of the SLC Major Club 3-day Cricket Plate encounter at Galle yesterday. Navod, who remained unbeaten on 124 at stumps on the first day, went on to reach 152 off 311 deliveries in his marathon knock, which included 10 boundaries.
Tamil Union resumed from their overnight score of 306-4 as Sachitha struck 76 off 95 balls and Minod faced 106 deliveries for his 62. At stumps on the second day Chilaw Marians were trailing by 308 on 161-3.
Resuming from a commanding position of 259-3, Badureliya SC went on to post a formidable total of 417 runs while Nugegoda S&WC was struggling on 134-6, still 283 runs behind with four wickeys in hand at Welagedara. Opener Irosh Samarasuriya took Panadura SC towards safety with an unbeaten knock of 61 off 140 deliveries as his side trail Kurunegala Youth by 155 runs at Maggona. All three matches will end today.
