Muhurath for ‘Mala Magulai’

The cameras are set to roll on a laughter-filled journey as the new comedy ‘Mala Magulai’ marked the start of production with its Muhurath ceremony, held last week at the Water’s Edge Hotel, attended by the film’s cast, crew and well-wishers from the industry.
Directed by Chris Anthony, best known for his earlier films ‘Ape Principal’ and ‘Passport’, ‘Mala Magulai’ marks his fourth cinematic venture. His most recent film, ‘Unlock’, is yet to be released in theatres. The screenplay is jointly written by Chalin Manuranga, Dulshan Silva and Anthony himself.
The story revolves around a company named ‘A to Z’, conceived to provide every service a customer might need from birth to death. However, the company’s ambitious vision takes an unexpected turn when it recruits a group of employees who have little understanding of its services or objectives. What follows is a series of comical misunderstandings, chaotic situations and laugh-out-loud moments that drive the film’s humour.
Produced by Kosala Gamage, the film features an ensemble cast comprising Dharmapriya Dias, Sampath Jayaweera, Mihiri Sirithilaka, Paboda Sandeepani, Richard Manamudali, Viduranga Sirimanna, Daya Wayaman, Ranjith Ruban, Raja Ganeshan and Tharindu Kavinda Gamage.
The technical team includes cinematography by Ruwan Costa, assistant direction by Niroshan Edirimanna, editing by Shan Alwis and music direction by Chinthaka Lakmal Jayakody. Makeup is by Priyantha Dissanayake, with art direction by Manjula Ayagama, while costume design is handled by Jeewanthi Perera.
The filming of ‘Mala Magulai’ is to be completed within January 2026 and the film is to be ready for screening soon. (SRF)
