Hollywood natural horror film ‘Primate’ revolving around a pet chimpanzee turned a deadly enemy to the very family it looked after, is now being screened in theatres in Colombo and the suburbs.

Directed by Johannes Roberts and co-wrote the screenplay with Ernest Riera, the film tells how Lucy’s tropical island homecoming turns deadly when her family’s clever chimpanzee, Ben, becomes rabid. With her father away and no help coming, paradise becomes a prison as Lucy and her friends fight for survival against a pet they once trusted.

The story opens with, Lucy Pinborough, a young college student accompanied by long-time friends Kate and Nick also Hannah who was invited by Kate without informing others, returning to her home in Hawaii after spending years away. While boarding, the friends meet Drew and Brad, two college-aged men looking to party in Hawaii.

The friends land in Hawaii and goes Lucy’s elaborately designed house embedded into a cliff. Her father Adam, a famous novelist, is deaf and primarily communicates through sign language. Lucy’s sister, Erin, complains that Lucy has been away for too long. It is revealed that the chimpanzee is Ben, the family’s pet. Ben is highly intelligent and has been taught to communicate using custom soundboard software on a tablet by Lucy’s late mother, a linguist. He is overjoyed when Lucy gifts him a teddy bear.

But the joyous environment turns topsy-turvy when Ben meets with and accident and turn up against each and every human being in the house.

The main roles are played by Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, and Troy Kotsur, Gia Hunter, Victoria Wyant and Benjamin Cheng.

Originally released in theatres on January 9, by Paramount Pictures, ‘Primate’ is imported to Sri Lanka by Liberty Cinemas Limited.

The film is now being screened at Liberty by Scope Kollupitiya, SCOPE Cinema – Colombo City Centre and Havelock City Mall, PVR Cinema, Ram Cinema, Regal Cinemas and Kandy City Centre. (SRF)
