Academic year dates amended
View(s):The Ministry Education has amended the date of conclusion of 2025 academic year for state, state approved private schools and piriven.
Therefore, the Sinhala and Tamil schools would end the 2025 academic year on Monday December 22, while Muslim schools would end the academic activities for 2025 on Friday, December 26.
School holidays for both Sinhala and Tamil school students would be from December 23 to January 4, 2026, while Muslim schools would have holidays from December 27 to January 4, 2026.
Therefore, the first stage of the first term of academic year 2026 would commence from Monday January 5, 2026.
The Education Ministry secretary issued a circular stating that even though amendments to the first term get amended the second and third terms school timetables would remain unchanged according to the 2026 circular.
However, there would be no change of school exam dates fixed by the Department of Examinations. (KW)
