View(s):We will rebuild, we will not falter
A nation that always rises
As a nation, so much have we endured
Yes we are always resilient and reassured
Wars, tsunamis, pandemics and more
We stood through it all with hope at our core.
Now as nature descends
with unforgiving force
And its fury takes its ruthless course
We rise again with shared solidarity
Our hearts teeming with unrelenting charity.
No matter the difference in our beliefs
We’re there for each other, providing relief
It shows how truly selfless we can all be
It’s truly inspiring for all who see.
Through trials and tribulations, we are united
In hope unyielding, we are never divided
Our spirits shine through our darkest hours
And we will see humanity’s true healing power.
We will rebuild, we will not falter
Our shared path forward we will not alter
Because no matter the punishment or crisis
We are Sri Lanka, a nation that rises.

They ‘Carve Their Names With Pride’ to help fellow countrymen
Years ago as a teenager I watched the movie titled ‘Carve Their Names With Pride’.
Now in my late ’70s, I don’t remember much of the story. However, it is a fitting title and tribute to our Tri-Forces and Police for their untiring efforts to rescue thousands of our hapless citizens in the recent devastation.
Some of them have died in the line of duty. I salute them all.
A grateful thank you to all others who are rallying around to help.

Set up a shuttle bus stand in Pettah
The government should plan to convert the old Pettah Bus Stand which is to be renovated to a new shuttle service bus stand to take commuters to a bus stand of their choice outside the city of Colombo. At least five or six bus stands should be set up outside the city from where commuters could take buses to the major cities such as Kandy, Negombo, Puttalam, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Nuwara Eliya and down South.
All passengers seeking to travel to any part of the country could thus come to Pettah and use the shuttle service to get to the bus stand from where they can travel to their destination.
This move will ease the congestion in the city and reduce pollution as well as the risk of speeding and reckless driving by bus drivers.
New business zones can be established in the areas around these bus stands thereby creating business and employment activities.
This is commonly seen in countries like Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.
