The Choir of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School, Kollupitiya, will usher in the Christmas season with its annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at the Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Polwatte, on Sunday, December 14, at 6 p.m.
First introduced in December 1957, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols has long held a cherished place in the spiritual and musical life of the Prep. School. The service recounts the Biblical narrative of redemption through nine readings drawn from the Old and New Testaments, beginning with humanity’s fall in Adam and culminating in the promise and birth of Christ. Each lesson is followed by a carol chosen to illuminate the scripture.
Choirmaster, Harin Amirthanathan’s programme reflects both traditional and contemporary English carols. The choir will be accompanied on the organ by Denham Pereira, and the service will be conducted by the school’s Chaplain, Rev. Andrew Devadason.
