Moratuwa Aquatics celebrates five years with Mora Swimming League 2025
View(s):Marking a significant milestone in its journey of nurturing young swimmers, Moratuwa Aquatics celebrates five years of dedicated, high-quality swimming coaching in 2025. To commemorate this milestone, the academy is hosting the second edition of the Mora Swimming League 2025 on Thursday, December 4, showcasing the talent and enthusiasm of over 150 young swimmers training under its banner.
Following the success of the inaugural league held in 2024, this year’s edition promises to be more vibrant and competitive. The league features multiple events across three categories, viz., Beginner, Intermediate, and Championship, specifically designed for swimmers in five age categories up to 16 years. All events are conducted in accordance with World Aquatics rules and regulations.
A unique aspect of the Mora Swimming League is its emphasis on team spirit in a sport traditionally dominated by individual competition. Swimmers compete under three dynamic teams – Black Marlins, Blue Whales, and Green Gators – fostering teamwork, collaboration and shared motivation. This team-based format brings an added layer of excitement, encouraging young athletes to celebrate both personal and collective achievements.

Moratuwa Aquatics continues to serve the community with distinction through its training programmes conducted at the St. Sebastian’s College Swimming Complex. The academy is powered by a skilled coaching pool of over 15 coaches, the majority of whom are accomplished national-level swimmers. With a mission to provide a complete pathway in swimming from foundational training to eventually supporting athletes toward national and international aspirations, Moratuwa Aquatics remains committed to ensuring high-quality coaching is accessible to young swimmers outside Colombo.
Registered with the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union, the academy has played an invaluable role in popularising swimming among both children and adults alike in Moratuwa and surrounding suburbs, bringing the lifelong benefits of the sport to a wider community.
