Talented filmmaker and academic Chathura Vimarsha’s latest short film ‘The Old Man and His Mask’ has been nominated as official Selection at ‘Toronto Global Film Festival’ in Canada.

Chathura Vimarsha
A Cinepiens Production, the film is to be screened at the International Short Films, Category on December 20.
Written by Chathura himself, the film revolves around an old man suffering from dementia and lives with his wife, in a quaint seaside cottage. Stricken with infirmity, he languishes in a bed tended to by his devoted spouse. The protracted confinement and the inexorable decline in his health instill a pervasive sense of defeat and an acute fear of mortality, rendering his existence enigmatic. The old man in the twilight of his life, harbours a subdued duality, manifesting in sporadic conversations with his favourite masks, with whom he finds a peculiar connection. In the recesses of his mind, the desire to break free from the perceived shackles of dependence takes a dark turn. The film embodies a psychological, dark-toned, monochromatic cinematic journey.
Chathura is a lecturer attached to Department of Performing Arts at Sri Palee Campus of the University of Colombo.
The film stars Thusitha Sanjaya Hettiarachchi and Bimsara Premaratna and behind the camera director of photography is Sachith B. Manamperi, production designer is Rajeewa Fernando, editor and colourist is Chamidu Munasinghe, musical score by Nilu Dilhani, sound designing, mixing and mastering by Thanushka Sanjaya Kahandawala and the line producer is Chamidu Munasinghe. Gaffer is Shirly Sheron and make-up is by Randika Tishan. Harsha Perera played the role of assistant director while Ravishanka Gamage is the production manager and Viyara Fernando is the production assistant.
The film earlier represented at international film festivals including Janakpur International Film Festival, Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF), Idromeno International Film Festival, Kuala Lumpur International Film Awards and Kerala Short Film Festival and represented at Jaffna International Film festival.
