Marshad Barry re-elected President of SLMBC

The Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Council (SLMBC) held its 31st annual general meeting at Hilton Colombo Residence. New office bearers were elected for the 2025-26 term. Marshad Barry of Amana Bank was re-elected as President. He is joined by Senior VP Tony Ganlath of Ganlath Timber and Transport Services, VP Wathsala Wijesinghe from International Scholar, and Treasurer Zaharine R Hameen from Aitken Spence Travel.

The committee includes representatives from Acorn Aviation, Dialog Axiata, Eduko Pathway, Inspiration Consultancy, Macksons Holdings, MTL Lanka Travels & Logistics, MWAY, Overseas Cargo Consultants, Public Bank Berhad, and SmashTaps. SN Travels was invited to serve on the subcommittee.

President Marshad said “we are looking ahead as a nation to further strengthen cooperation with Malaysia, including plans for up to 10,000 employment opportunities for Sri Lankans and discussions on visa-free travel. Additionally, we seek to boost trade, particularly in sectors such as agriculture and investment, and enhance tourism ties.”

Following the AGM, a panel discussion took on “Accelerating and Expanding Economic Cooperation between Sri Lanka and Malaysia.” Panelists included Badli Hisham Adam, High Commissioner of Malaysia; Nilrukshi De Silva of Macksons Holdings; Praveena Sarathchandra of SmashTaps; and Imran Akbarally of Akbar Brothers. The event concluded with a networking session.
