APHNH unites private hospitals at national gathering
View(s):The Association of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes of Sri Lanka (APHNH), the recognised representative body of the nation’s private healthcare sector, hosted its first national gathering, under the theme “Beyond Competition – Future Through Partnerships” with the participation of over 150 representatives from private hospitals across the country at the Waters Edge.
APHNH President Raveen Wickramasinghe, emphasised the pivotal role played by the private health sector, which provides 55% of outpatient care and 5% of inpatient care in Sri Lanka. He stressed the importance of unity within the sector to elevate national healthcare standards in collaboration with the public health system.

A panel discussion was held where senior members of the APHNH Governing Council — Dr Ananda Kuruppu Arachchi (Past President), Dr Sandamali Weerasinghe (Secretary), Dr Vibash Wijeratne (Vice President), and Mahanil Perera (Vice President) — shared their insights on regulatory matters, industry trends, and the evolving role of APHNH in partnership with the Private Health Services Regulatory Council (PHSRC). Moderated by Nishantha Jayamanne (Assistant Secretary), the discussion underscored the Association’s commitment to driving collaboration.
The gathering also marked the launch of APHNH’s official website, www.aphnh.com, designed to serve as a central platform for communication, advocacy, and knowledge-sharing among members. A felicitation ceremony honored past presidents — Prof Lal Chandrasena, Dr Lakith Peiris, Dr Ananda Kuruppu Arachchi, and Dr Ruwan Senathilaka — for their service to the Association and the private healthcare sector.
Dr Chatura Weerasinghe, Treasurer of APHNH, highlighted the enthusiasm of private hospitals from across the island in rallying behind APHNH’s mission to unite the industry and uplift standards. The event concluded with a fellowship dinner that fostered stronger ties among private healthcare leaders.
