View(s):Police Band Royalties Dispute in Court

A royalties dispute within the band Police has ended up in the London High Court. On 25th August, band members Andy Summer and Stewart Copeland sued Sting over lost royalties running into millions. The dispute has been ongoing for a while. Sting, whose real name is Gordon Sumner, is being sued along with his company, Magnetic Publishing Ltd. Police were formed in 1977. The group has broken up and reunited several times since the last reunion and tour in 2008. The band’s most successful song has been ‘Every Breath You Take’, which generates around £500,000 in royalties a year. The band has sold over 75 million records worldwide.
Mariah Carey to Perform at MTV VMAs After 20 Years

Mariah Carey is set to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards after 20 years. She is also scheduled to receive the Vanguard Award at the event, which will be held on 7th September at the UBS Arena in New York, US. Carey is expected to sing several of her hit songs. Meanwhile, the 56 year old mega star’s 16th album ‘Here For It All’, will be released on 26th September.
Animated K-Pop Group Huntr/X Tops UK Chart
The fictional all-girl animated group Huntr/X is heading the UK singles chart for a third non-consecutive week with the catchy track ‘Golden’ taken from the fantasy musical Korean movie Kpop Demon Hunters. The South Korean group Huntrs/X, comprises Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, has also topped the charts in the US and Australia. ‘Golden’ is the second K-pop song to reach the summit of the UK chart after Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ in 2012. The soundtrack of Kpop Demon Hunters is phenomenal as it also has three more songs on the top 10, ‘No Broke Boys’ by Disco Lines & Tinashe at No. 2, ‘Soda Pop’ by Saja Boys, Andrew Choi and NeckWav at No. 3 and ‘Your Idol’ by the same combination at No.6.
Olivia Dean Scores Two UK Top 10 Hits

Olivia Dean has two songs on the UK top 10 singles chart this week. Her latest release, ‘Man I Need’, debuted at No. 8. The song, her third top 10 hit, has a combination of jazz, gospel and R&B coupled with a swinging rhythm. The 26 year old co-penned the track with Tobias Jesso Jr and Zach Nahone. Her earlier release ‘Nice To Each Other’ – the catchy neo soul track is back on the UK top 10 at No.9, rising from 14. Four weeks ago, ‘Golden’ made its first top 10 appearance. Both songs are taken from Olivia Dean’s new album The Art Of Living.
