A day to remember for Familians
View(s):Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya was abuzz with excitement on Saturday, August 23 as the school grounds transformed into a hive of activity with students arriving in their gleaming new attire, faces radiant with anticipation. The atmosphere was electric. After weeks of eager waiting, the much-anticipated Familian Fantasy Walk and Carnival had finally arrived.
This grand celebration was the result of months of meticulous planning and untiring effort. Spearheaded by the dynamic Past Pupils’ Association of HFC, the event brought together the collective strength of the school and its extended family — the Welfare Society, Parent Teacher Association, Association of Past Teachers, and the academic staff.
The day began on a note of grace and unity, with blessings invoked by clergy representing all four major religions in Sri Lanka – a beautiful reminder that Holy Family Convent is, and will always be, a true community school — where students of every faith and background flourish together.

Principal Rev. Sr. Charitha Thandalge formally declared the walk open and blue and white balloons soared into the sky to the strains of the school song played by the Western Band. A drone gliding overhead, proudly carrying the HFC crest, sent showers of confetti down upon the students, staff, and past pupils gathered in the school grounds.
The carnival that followed saw an evening brimming with fun, laughter and unforgettable experiences. Crowds thronged to the thrilling rides and the many game stalls, including the chillingly popular Horror House by the boys of STC. Food and vendor stalls lined the grounds, and the pulsating beats of the Yes FM DJs set the perfect rhythm for the night.
As the evening wore on, the carnival transformed into a joyous party that carried on past 10.30 p.m., wrapping up the Familian Fantasy Walk and Carnival – a resounding celebration of heritage, unity and joy for the Grand Old Lady by the Sea, now standing tall at 122 years.
