The Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Institute (SLESI) marked a milestone, celebrating its 52nd anniversary in a grand and dignified ceremony held at the Vijithapura Hall of the Institute, located at 29, Sir Razik Fareed Mawatha, Colombo 1.

Organised under the leadership of the current Chairman, Brigadier (Retd) K A Gnanaweera, along with the Board of Trustees and the Manager, Squadron Leader (Retd) Chandana Nawagattegama, the event brought together a distinguished gathering of past chairmen, life members, employees, and well-wishers of the institute.

The highlight of the occasion was the presence of General (Retd) R M Daya Rathnayake, former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, who was chief guest. His participation underscored the continued commitment of the institute to honour the legacy and contributions of Sri Lanka’s ex-servicemen.

Adding prestige to the ceremony were the guests of honour Major General (Retd) A K Sooriyabandara, Major General (Retd) M D S Chandrapala, Air Vice Marshal (Retd) O D N L Perera and Rear Admiral (Retd) H R Mayadunne. Their presence reflected the unity and camaraderie among veterans across the tri-services and reinforced the institute’s role as a cornerstone of post-service fellowship and national contribution.

The evening featured addresses by the chairman and the chief guest, highlighting the achievements of SLESI over the past five decades and its ongoing initiatives to serve members.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the contributions of past chairmen , reaffirming the Institute’s legacy of discipline, service, and unity.

Employees of the institute also took part in the celebration, symbolising the collective spirit and shared pride in the institute’s growth and continued relevance.

As SLESI steps forward into a new chapter, the 52nd anniversary celebration stood as a powerful testament to its enduring mission: to serve those who once served the nation.
