Recreational zone at Negombo Base Hospital for OPD patients
View(s):Old boys of Maris Stella College (Batch 89) have taken steps to create a recreational area for the hundreds of daily OPD patients, filling a void that had not drawn anyone’s attention so far.
The recreation room, which is estimated to cost about Rs7mn, covering about 625 square feet on the ground floor, will be equipped with 135 seats, water dispensers, 2 wide TV screens, a device that will screen a token for each patient enabling them to see the relevant doctor, a place for reading books, magazines and a breast feeding area for mothers.
The 89 Batch has established a fund by Bro Clinton’s name who was principal for 10 years from 79-89, is now 85-years-old and has fallen sick. Prior to the ceremony a special prayer service was conducted by Rev Fr Darrel Coogne, Director of Seeduwa Supuwath Arana to invoke blessings for Bro Clinton’s recovery.
Rev Bro Nicholas Fdo, provincial of the South Asian Countries, Rev Bro Chamara Hettiarachchi Asst Provincial Bursar of the OMI Congregation and Editor Marist News Letter for South Asia, and a few Rev Brothers, guests and relatives of Bro Clinton attended the ceremony.
One of the members of Batch 89 Dr D S Peiris said: “The purpose of this project is to give mental happiness to those who come for physical treatment for various ailments and thereby Bro Clinton’s name will be remembered for ever.”
