SLFUW commemorates its departed
View(s):The Sri Lanka Federation of University Women (SLFUW) held an event on July 19 at their headquarters where seth pirith and the Thun Suthraya were chanted to invoke blessings on the SLFUW’s departed past presidents, members and their spouses. SLFUW President Colonel Dr Udula Krishnaratne welcomed the Ven Thihagoda Saradha Thero, and all council members and invitees who were present. 40 parcels of dry rations sufficient for the day-to-day consumption of a family of four for a week, along with monetary contributions, were given to selected families from the Kithulwatta area and Rodney Street in Colombo 8.
SLFUW has conducted many charitable and social upliftment programmes in memory of its departed past presidents and members. After making a cash donation to the Good Way Prayer House, United Pentecostal Church, Lankaberiya, Iththakanda, the SLFUW sponsored the total cost of purchasing tables and benches for the use of 50 children following English lessons conducted by church staff. SLFUW bore the hospital charges incurred for an urgent eye surgery performed at Vinseth Hospital on a 72-year-old lady. Also, the SLFUW made a cash donation to the parents of a 9-year-old child who is suffering from leukemia and lives in a remote area in Kurunegala.
SLFUW remains committed to continuing with its charitable and social outreach efforts, focusing on supporting needy undergraduates of state universities from rural areas, underprivileged individuals and families in need.
