St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota secured their third consecutive victory in the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025, defeating hometown rivals Vidyartha College 48-31 in their Bowl Segment clash at Nittawela yesterday. St Anthony’s led 31-14 at halftime.

The match started with an early try from Antonian hooker Avan Ekanayake, converted by skipper Omitha Dissanayake, giving them a 5-0 lead in the fifth minute. A box-kick from Dissanayake saw No.8 Randeer Perera score their second try, with Dissanayake adding the extras for a 12-0 lead by the seventh minute.

Vidyartha was reduced to 14 men in the 12th minute after Dinusha Ekanayake was sin-binned. Despite the setback, St. Anthony’s dominated, with tries from Dissanayake, winger Yohan Gunawardena, and vice captain Ravindu Gregory. Vidyartha opened their account through forward Vihanga Sathsindu’s try, but St. Anthony’s continued to pile on the pressure, leading 31-14 at the break.

In the second half, tries from Shevin Nethsara and Perera extended St. Anthony’s lead. Vidyartha battled back with a try from Kevin Karuanthilake, but the Antonians’ relentless attack saw Gregory add another try, finishing at 48-31.
