Coach Fernando completes highly successful coaching tour
View(s):Renowned Canadian badminton coach, Dharshana Fernando concluded a highly successful six-nation coaching tour, spreading his expertise across the globe. The tour took him to Dubai, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, where he worked with national teams, junior players, and club level athletes.
“I’m blessed to travel the world for badminton, a sport I’m deeply passionate about. I’d like to extend my gratitude to our sponsors for their support, making these coaching tours possible,” said Coach Fernando.
During his tour, Coach Fernando worked closely with the national teams in Laos and Cambodia, while focusing on junior players and club level athletes in other countries. He praised the effort and dedication of players, coaches, and administrators in these nations, particularly in Laos and Cambodia, where there’s still room for growth to achieve world rankings.
“While there’s a long way to go, the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the players, coaches, and administrators are truly admirable,” Coach Fernando noted.
Looking ahead, Coach Fernando is preparing for the new badminton season at Fernando’s Youth Badminton Academy in Canada, set to kick off in September. He’s also gearing up for another coaching tour later in the year. As a prominent figure in Canadian badminton, Coach Fernando’s global coaching tour is a testament to his dedication to promoting the sport and developing players worldwide.
Coach Fernando, who is based in Canada for decades, has been engaged in coaching tours in the Asia Pacific region previously, conducting training and coaching programmes. Coach Fernando, an alumni of St. Thomas’ College, Guruthalawa, has also conducted coaching camps in Sri Lanka during almost every visit to his native country.
Coach Fernando, who completed 55 years of involvement with badminton, as a player, coach and promoter, has been involved in a series of coaching camps around the globe. A former Sri Lankan national player, Fernando has earned a reputation as a professional badminton coach in Canada, mainly centred in Toronto. Known famously as Coach Fernando in Canada, he established his own world class coaching academy 20 years ago, which is famous as ‘Fernando’s Youth Badminton Academy’ today.
Fernando continues his playing career in the Master’s Division at world and regional levels, and has been in impressive form throughout the years.
