Film ‘Riverston’ awarded at Shanghai IFF
View(s):Internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan filmmaker Lalith Rathnayake’s latest cinematic creation ‘Riverston’ has brought pride to the country, winning two prestigious awards at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival Golden Goblet Awards held in China.
Rathnayake, along with co-writer Nilantha Perera, was honoured with the ‘Asian New Talent Award’ for Best Script Writer, while Prabath Roshan received the ‘Asian New Talent Award’ for Best Cinematography for his exceptional visual work on the film.
Featuring a stellar cast including Mahendra Perera, Shyam Fernando and Nimanthi Porage, ‘Riverston’ was nominated in five major categories, standing out among top international entries and further cementing Sri Lanka’s presence on the global film stage.
Produced by Cinearts Films, ‘Riverston’ beautifully captures the scenic splendour and cultural richness of Sri Lanka, with filming locations spanning Kandy, Digana, Medamahanuwara, and the breathtaking Riverston mountain range. The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Mahendra Perera, Shyam Fernando, and Nimanthi Porage, along with a dedicated Sri Lankan production team.
This latest success builds on Rathnayake’s acclaimed career. His previous feature, ‘Vishama Bhaga’ (‘The Other Half’, 2019), earned multiple international accolades, including Best Cinematography at the International Peace and Film Festival and the Golden Dragon Award for Best Producer at the DRUK International Film Festival 2020. It also received nominations at the Montreal International Wreath Awards and the International Thai Film Festival, further establishing Rathnayake’s reputation as a storyteller of global appeal.
Following its triumph in Shanghai, ‘Riverston’ is set to represent Sri Lanka at several other international film festivals and will soon be released in local theatres and on digital streaming platforms.
