The annual feast procession of St Sebastian’s Church, Nayakakanda Parish, which belongs to the Wattala Deanery, was held last Sunday with the participation of a large number of faithful. This is considered the longest-running feast procession in the Archdiocese of Colombo, which includes the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara.

The procession began at 1.30 pm from the church and travelled approximately 12 kilometers along the main roads and byroads of the village, returning to the church by 9.30 pm.

During the event, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo, His Lordship Maxwell Silva, blessed the devotees with the statue of St Sebastian.

The event was organised under the guidance of Parish Priest, Rev Fr Priya Jayamanna, with the support of the Young Christian Family Fellowship  and other parish societies.

A special highlight was the symbolic gesture of religious harmony, as all Buddhist temples along the route welcomed and offered hospitality to the clergy and devotees.
