Digital ID vendor selection this month
The Request for Proposal (RFP) to select a vendor for implementing the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity (SLUDI) system will be completed within this month, top officials said.
The Joint Project Management Committee (JPMC) for the project convened for the first time on June 17 to review and monitor the project’s progress.
Following the meeting, Eranga Weeraratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, told The Sunday Times Business that the committee decided to issue the Request for Proposal (RFP) within this month to select the vendor for implementing the SLUDI system. He noted that representatives from the Sri Lankan government, the Indian High Commission, and other key stakeholders attended the meeting.
The procurement done by India is for the Master Systems Integrator. The integrator will integrate the MOSSIP platform with the different devices also produced by India, suggest the biometric devices and the registration devices and also the hardware infrastructure. The role of the systems integrator will be seen when the system is installed before any citizen data is stored in that system. In parallel, the government will evaluate and procure a managed service provider of Sri Lankan origin, who will take over from the point the master systems integrator leaves and operate the system from then on.
Mr. Weeraratne further stated that the launch of the Digital ID sandbox is expected within the next three to four months. This initiative will allow software developers and institutions from both the public and private sectors to engage with and assess the open digital ID platform.
