St. Peter’s in easy win over Eagles
At Nittawela, defending champions St. Peter’s College produced a solid all-round performance to defeat St. Anthony’s College by 24-8 in their Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 match yesterday. The Peterites, showing good control in both attack and defence, led 12-5 at halftime. They scored from four tries and two conversions, while conceding an unconverted try and a penalty and retaining the Rector’s Trophy.
From the opening whistle, St. Peter’s dictated terms, using their powerful forwards and speedy backs to gain territory and keep the Antonians under pressure.
St. Anthony’s fought back bravely and managed to score an early try to stay in the contest before the break. But after lemons, St. Peter’s tightened their grip on the game, adding two more tries and a conversion while restricting the Antonians to a solitary penalty.
The lads from Bambalapitiya controlled possession smartly in the second half, using their set-pieces and tactical kicks to pin St. Anthony’s in their own half and capitalise on scoring chances. At the final whistle, St. Peter’s sealed a well-earned 24-8 victory, keeping their league campaign firmly on track.
