Mahanama prevail over Dons by 9 runs on DLS
Mahanama College prevailed over traditional rivals D.S. Senanayake College by 9 runs in the inaugural Battle of the Gold’s T20 encounter under floodlights at the CCC ground. The match was hampered by rain when D.S. Senanayake, taking first lease of the wicket, were on 49-3 after facing 7.1 overs before play was stopped due to rain. The match was curtailed to 18 overs as D.S. Senanayake resumed their innings and went on make 134-6 with Ranumitha Sehas hitting a half century.
Mahanama, in their run chase, were making steady progress but again the umpires were forced to stop the match again when the game was 16 overs done. Mahanama were 126-6 at the time of the stoppage. With no further play possible, Mahanama were declared winners by 9 runs on DLS method.
Mahanama bagged three of the four individual awards on offer — Sithum Vihanga, the man of the match, Chamika Heenatigala, the best bowler and Deneth Gunatileke the best fielder, with top scorer Ranumitha Sehas of D.S. Senanayake being adjudged the best batsman.
