Spring festival in Nuwara Eliya

The annual spring festival (Wasantha Uthsawaya) celebrated at Nuwara Eliya which commenced on Monday attracted a high number of local tourists. The Nuwara Eliya municipal council is organising the festival with the support of State-institutions.
The festival kicked off on Monday, at Victoria Park in Nuwara Eliya. Central Province Governor Lalith U Gamage took part in the event.
School children in Nuwara Eliya participated in cultural dances and band displays signalling the start of the event.
The British who colonised Sri Lanka named Nuwara Eliya ‘Little England’ due to its cooler climate and used the area as a holiday retreat.
The spring festival is now celebrated annually.
