The Sri Lanka rugby squad, now playing under the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) banner, opted out of the Hangzhou Asian Games official opening, giving more weightage to their commitment on Sunday morning.

Tarinda Ratwatte’s sevens lads are committed to make an impression in spite of all adversities and were only thinking of the task at hand and were hard at training yesterday. According to the draw the OCA Lankan team will take on Chinese Taipei in the morning session and take on the strong South Koreans the second session in their Pool ‘B’ encounters.

Meanwhile at the Xiangshan Sailing Centre seeing two Sri Lankans — Tharen Nanayakkara and Taalya Tranchell, sailing their fifth and sixth races in Boy’s and Girl’s Dinghy – ILCA4 respectively. Young Nanayakkara came in 11th place in both his races where Malaysian Muhammad Asnawi and Thai Bhanubandh Weka placed first in the fifth and sixth races respectively. Concurrently, Tranchell was placed sixth and seventh while South Korean Seol Jaekyoung and Singaporean Keira Carlyle won in her fifth and sixth races respectively.
